Set Canvas Case
any advice on oil paints and acrylic paints?
i need advice on how to use them because my i got a painting set for x-mas w/ a canvas and oil,water,and acrylic paints i know how to use the water colors but I’m just an amateur with it. i really don’t know how to use the oil. i just tried using it and its really like a solid color(red) but i like using soft tones and i just screwed up my painting on accident.so any advice. and I’m afraid to use the acrylic cuz i don’t know whats in store in case i mess up again so advice on that too please.also do i need to prep my canvas for any of the paints?
1. Watercolor paints are usually used on watercolor paper. so unless you have it I would wait a while.
2. Oil. Oils are better if your beginning because acrylic, though it is easier to clean because you only use water it dries very very fast. You have to be quick with acrylic.
3. To start. take a cup and a vase and place it on the table. Use only two colors (preferably black and white). Use a pencil to sketch the basic shapes in relation to one another. Then start to paint.
4. Once you are a little better with the two colors, after a few paintings, try using three colors and move on from there. Continue with still life until you get the hang of the oil paint.
5. You need linseed oil and a thinner though to clean it. After you clean the brushes wash them in soap and water.
6 Oils take about six weeks to dry.
7. Now you can try acrylics, which is easier and cheaper to use, then on to water colors.
