Is it disrespectful for civilians to wear an Army Combat Uniform?
Is it disrespectful for a civilian to wear one of the ACU jackets? I was thinking of purchasing one, but before I did I wanted to check. If it isn’t disrespectful, what are the views and guidelines on non-military and American flag patches put on the jacket. Patches such as a Gadsden flag, a name tag, a tag with the word American Citizen in place of the service branch tag, and possibly a patch depicting a bald eagle in front of an American flag with two revolvers crossed beneath the eagle’s beak with the words America’s Freedom – 2nd Amendment – The Right to bear arms.

I would not wear any service patches, rank or unit patches out of complete respect for the men and women who have served this great nation.
Yes and no. This question leads you into shades of grey. First of all, as long as you aren’t wearing any unit patches or rank or insignias, its just a jacket. With that said, you’re still going to get dirty looks from service members because no matter how hard you try, you’re making the Army look bad. Most people who saw you wearing that would think that you are somehow affiliated with the army. Therefore if you do something stupid, look fat or incompetant, or are just generally ate up, they’ll associate the army as such. In short, it isn’t disrespectful per se’, but I know it irks me and alot of my battle buddies…
