Why were there explosions in N.W.A.’s music videos?
As a hardcore fan of old-school hip-hop and action movies,I’ve always been a fan of West Coast rap artists,even though I live in Brooklyn,New York. I’ve always wondered this question-what’s the purpose of having explosions in NWA’s music videos? It started with their second album “100 Miles and Runnin’”,with their infamous police chase.Later in the video,you see a car chashing to another,seconds later,NWA and the police scatter away as the car blows up into smithereens. One year later,the two videos for the”Efil4zaggin” album-Alwayz Into Somethin’,and Appetite 4 Destruction,show a scene where a car explodes. And if that’s not enough,in Dr. Dre’s album,the Chronic,with the track “High Powered”, newcomer RBX comes in and says:”I drop bombs like Hiroshima.” I’ve always imagined how funny it would be if NWA’s future videos had a nuke scene. But then again,their videos are more like an action thriller movie. Is there anyone who can see my point?
Cube robbing a bank in depression era style. They realized the entertainment and sales value of having videos that used elements of action genre elements, of which explosions is a key component (ostensively, one of the questions a film producer asks about scripts he hasn’t read yet is, “How many explosions would there be in the movie?”).
